Rest in Peace
Former State Legislator Mary Lundby passed away this morning. You can read the Register’s story here. While some grimaced at some of her political beliefs, her style of politics is something we could use more of here in Iowa and across the country. There was never any doubt where she stood.

Mary Lundby was honest and kind. Those qualities are in short supply and she will be missed.
ReplyDeleteHer faith was strong and she is resting in the arms of God.

A great woman with a strong faith...may she rest in peace.

Mary's Dash
ReplyDeleteI read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of her birth
And spoke of the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own,
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard;
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect
And more often wear a smile,
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So when your eulogy is being read
With your life’s actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?
Mary had a tremendous impact on my life. I had such respect for her as a person, her intellect, her independence, her integrity, and her work ethic. She was her own person. She did "life" her own way. I will take so much from her example and she has only to look back now on all that she accomplished, all those she helped, all those she influenced, and those she befriended and think that her dash was well spent.
Her lord and savior will undoubtedly greet her with the biblical passage "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
Well said Brent...
ReplyDeleteAppropriate, Brent, thanks, and thanks to KK for starting a thread when it's needed.

I know that Mary has entered her reward now but if I may implore Krusty's readers to keep Rosemary Thomson in prayers. I understand she's been removed from life support...my apologies for not mentioning this earlier.
ReplyDeleteI know Jim and the family would be greatly comforted by your thoughts and prayers.
I couldn't agree more Brent.
ReplyDeleteThanks

I just got invited to drink a beer in a facebook group to her memory by one of the above posters. I will honor her in my own way and not in such a classless way as that. She deserves better.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Rosemary Thomson?
Anon 6:14 - It was Mary's own personal request that upon her demise, for friends to gather and raise up a cold glass and celebrate her life, instead of mourning...classic Mary!
ReplyDeleteTo know her you would immediately realize this isn't about the beer, it's about friends and public servants coming together (in more ways than just consuming beverages) to fulfill the high calling of working towards "good government!"
6:14 obviously you didn't know Mary well. Mary would rather be drinking a beer with friends than anything else. She asked Brent to tell her friends to do this for her. So, don't go, you obviously weren't a friend, just a constituent.
ReplyDeletedear god Tibby, that is what Mary would be saying. It is about a good beer!
ReplyDeleteRosemary had a stroke and was put on life support earlier this week. She has since been removed from life support and is now in a hospice setting.
ReplyDeleteIf only a fraction of her friends hear about this....they're going to need a bigger bar!
ReplyDeleteI dont think she would have approved of certain people drinking. But it is a very good gesture. She will be missed.
ReplyDelete10:43, there was no need for you to post your own personal standards in such a judgemental-sounding manner, wouldn't it be best to permit a funeral procession to just pass without bystander comment?
ReplyDeleteMy cousin and I had the opportunity to visit sweet Mary at the hospital. We had a pretty good conversation and we are just glad that we were able to thank her personally for all she has done for the State of Iowa. She was such a remarkable lady and I am sure she must be enjoying the party atmosphere as people come together to celebrate her life. Mary will live forever in people's hearts/
ReplyDeleteFor Mary
ReplyDelete"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
Emma Nemecek and Althea Hasse
A good legislator, a great person. The phrase one of a kind, I think is fitting.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless you Mary!
