Waiting on the Dark Horse

On Saturday the Des Moines Register did a story about Chairman’s race. It’s just another story that paints the Republican Party of Iowa in a poor light if you ask me. The article states that we are looking for “stability.” Again, I couldn’t disagree more. We need a new approach, a new vision, and better results.

With Christmas just a few days away, and a public chair forum the following weekend, the race for chairman is deadlocked and little will change until 2009 rolls around. If I was a SCC member, the mere fact that nobody is able to get close to the required nine votes for a victory would make look outside of the current list candidates, rather than compromise my vote just so someone can win.

Let’s look at what votes are locked up (for now).

Gopal Krishna is the frontrunner. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. Supporting his is National Committeeman Steve Scheffler, Committeewoman Kim Lehman, Lisa Smith, and Gopal himself.

Danny Carroll is in the game with two committed votes in Eldon Pals and Wes Enos. The problem for Danny is the fact that he has very little opportunity to see his support grow as the races comes to a close. I think it’s safe to say that if Carroll can’t find more votes, it’s logical to see Pals and Enos throw their support behind Krishna. If that happens, Krishna moves within 3 votes of victory.

Matt Strawn is the wildcard. I’m confident that he has support on the committee, but I don’t think he has the solid type of support that Krishna and Carroll have. That’s not all bad for the Strawn camp as he’s probably the first choice of the majority of the 10 other SCC members who are not supporting Gopal, Carroll, or Matt Randall.

This is why I’m betting on a Dark Horse to emerge. These are serious times for the Iowa GOP, for the Party to be relevant we need a Chair who can speak about Iowa’s fiscal crisis, and use it to grow the Party. While all of the candidates seeking the chair position are honorable people (except Krishna), we are not a party looking for stability, we are a party looking to find our purpose. The SCC needs to look for the candidate who can make the party relevant again. I don’t think that candidate is in the mix yet.

Total Domination

Even with Greg Jennings yet to play, I have won the championship in Yoda’s fantasy football league. Going into the playoffs as the 2nd seed, I was confident that the number one scoring team in the league would be just fine. Krusty Kudos to Phillip Rivers, DeAngelo Williams. Antonio Gates, Matt Prater, and that wise GM who made some last minute roster moves to ensure a victory. Oh and if your curious, Yoda finished the season at 5-8 and missed the playoffs.

  1. Krusty, you are so full shit its hard to imagine where you get your information.

    Eldon Pals and Wes Enos will NEVER vote for Gopal as they were directly threatened by him just as so many others on the committee have been. And if you knew anything about Pals and Enos like I do, they are not pussies who take kindly to threats from Krishna. Its the same reason why Bill Anderson and Monte Shaw are no longer in the Gopal column.

    Matt Strawn is all sizzle and no steak according to most of my colleagues on the committee who have met with him so where in the hell do you get your info? CityView?

    Right now Carroll and Pate seem to be everybody's first or second choice in no particular order among the clearly uncommitted members.

    I forsee these two separating themselves from the pack when they are measured up with the others in person at the 27th meeting.

  2. Pate would be great just as long as he does not bring the Hendersons back to Des Moines

    ReplyDelete
  3. I know for fact with out a shadow of doubt that Danny Carroll Has 6 votes locked up and there is speculation that he may well have it sowed up after the 27th

  4. Here is how the blogosphere sees it over on Mark Doland's blog:

    Paul Pate 52 votes (40%)
    Andy Cable 29 votes (22%)
    Danny Carroll 21 votes (18%)
    Matt Strawn 20 votes (15%)
    Chris Reed 3 votes (2%)
    Gopal Krishna 2 votes (1%)
    Ted Sporer 0 votes (0%)
    Matt Randall 0 votes (0%)

  5. At the end of the day Gopal Krishna will only have three votes at the most. Lisa Smith, himself and Scheffler. It does not appear that he has given enough money to Kim Lehman to gaurantee her support, but stay tuned.

    The only candidates with any credentials related to electing republicans successfully are Pate, Carroll, Sporer and Cable. Certainly some of them more than others.

    Lastly I want to know who voted against censuring Kim Lehman AND which of the candidates for Chairman would have as well because the grassroots hate them.

    ReplyDelete
  6. if the grassroots knew of Lehman's persoanl Value they would be very disappointed......infidelity!

  7. No wonder she supported Teahen.

  8. We shall see...

    If Danny had 6 votes, I think we would be hearing more about it. the truth is 10-11 votes on the committee are up in the air, they might lean one way or another, but not locks. In this game you need to lock up votes, otherwise you are wasting time.

    As for Eldon and Wes, I hope you are correct.

  9. Anon 9:51 / Your breathtaking grasp of the English language distinguishes you... and then you add the word "colleague" which suggests that you are one of us? Not that you would matter anyway.

    You are a cancer to our cause.The new SCC members, who bring distinguished character to the party and SCC, will quickly sort out your type and expose you and those like you for who you really are.

    Your previous use of "degraded" debate on this site has a couple of my teenagers using the word "poptard" around the house. It took me all of 3 seconds to realize they could no longer read Krustys site and as of this morning, I will now block Hershel from the eyes of my children, who by the way, represent the future of our party. Not that I matter either...I'll just quietly go away and seek more intelligent "colleagues."

    You represent our past, please leave or wait; one way or the other, I forsee an exit sign in your future.

  10. Anon 10:09..

    Go on the record then.. WHO is supporting Carroll then?

    If these votes are so "locked up" then..put the name out there for all to see.

    Hey..Anon 10:02.. what is your friggin deal?? You sound like you got a little bit of an unhealthy obsession. Its the holidays...get some help.. :)

  11. Krusty, Krusty, Krusty-the dark horse is already in the race.You of all people should know races like this will also be a toss up on the first ballot,

    what matters is what happens on the second, and third ballot, this has to be looked at liked the Democrat Caucuses, who is viable after each round

    with that being said the key is who Shickel (4th), McGee (4th), Huctheson (2nd) do 1st round, and what Ortega, Randall, and the 5th district boys do the 2nd round

    my money being the most important vote is probably D Chung

    ReplyDelete
  12. if you compare this to the Iowa Caucuses

    Pate= Thompson
    Carroll= Romney
    Strawn= Huckabee
    Gopal= McCain
    Randall= Brownback
    Cable= Tancredo
    Reed= Paul
    Sporer= Guiliani

    that's not who they supported but that's the feeling I get at how strong their organization/campaign is, (although I see some switching Strawn and Caroll)

  13. 10:28: Your comment is inappropriate even if this is true and I doubt you have any proof of this.

    This is nothing but gossip and you should be ashamed of yourself.

    We have plenty of reason to be unhappy with Lehman but this is not one of them.

    Krishna will have a polarizing effect on the party and this is not what we need right now. We need a uniter and Krishna is not that person.

    Shame on anyone who is thinking of what they want personally for themselves and not what is in the best interest of the party.

    This is why Lehman did what she did.

  14. Cedar,
    The Henderson's are a irrelevant cancer that need to stay in the past. You may not be familiar with the crap they pulled. But for the good of the party don't let them do it again. Remember the campaigns that they touched that completely crashed and burned?

  15. Anon 10:56..

    Wow..again..Ya know..its Christmas.

    Put down the Hateraid...breathe in some nice cold Iowa air....

    Like I said..sounds like you might have a bit of an unhealthy obsession.

    Perhaps you should call 211 for a referral to some of our state's available mental health services.

    Or you could seek a medical opinion to perhaps remove what might be lodged in an uncomfortable place.

    And have yourself a Merry Christmas!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Whatever. Todd has been involved with BVP, Romney, Rudy, and Miller-Meeks. We should pray that he's the ED of the party.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If Pate wins, we will have two paid guys to monitor the blogs with multiple user names in Todd Versteegh and Todd Henderson. That will lead us to victories in November of 09!

    ReplyDelete
  18. why did "everyone" stop submiting comments? That's right, "everybody" was called out...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Henderson has also been involved in Northey, Vaudt, Leach and Pate. His wife was the youngest person ever elected to the Cedar Rapids City Council and I'm sure he was involved in that race too.

    Versteegh ran the FairTax campaign which played an integral role in propelling Huckabee to victory in the Iowa Caucus and defeated a well known candidate in the 2nd CD primary.

    Its the holidays so maybe we can keep the vitriol filled jealousy to a minimum?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ok time to set the record straight.

    Henderson-Vaudt..I VOTED FOR HIM

    Henderson-Northey...WHERE WERE YOU DURING THE GENERAL???

    Henderson-Leach...WOW! WHAT DID YOU DO AGAIN?

    Henderson-BVP...FIRED

    Henderson-Romney...SENT RESUME, BECAME LAUGHING STOCK

    Henderson-Rudy... UM WTF, YOU WANT TO BRAG ABOUT SHOWING UP AT AN EVENT???

    WHERE ARE THE FEC DISCLOSURES???

    Liar!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Todd Versteegh has been a committed worker for this party for a long time. Considering the county he's working in, IMO it's amazing he's been involved in any successful campaigns at all.

    I don't know who has the beef with him, but they're looking in the wrong direction if they're looking for what's wrong with the party. I expect Todd is more likely to be part of our successful resurgence in the state than any failure.

  22. Hate is not a family value.

    Merry Christmas anon 11:55

  23. I know the grassroots wants Danny Carroll and they are who wins elections. Money is great but you can't buy the people who put up signs, door knock, work the offices, and make things happen. Without the grassroots you end up with dismal showings like John McCain.

    ReplyDelete
  24. there is a difference from the grassroots and the far right!

    ReplyDelete
  25. And there is a difference between the grassroots, the far right and the far right grassroots in his former house district that support Danny Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree with that!! And why we must choose Danny over Gopal

    ReplyDelete
  27. Danny WILL UNIFIE the party and will truly bring us together.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yep, Danny Carroll will unify the social conservatives and the evangelicals!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Danny will also unify RPI and the BVP campaign.

    If Danny wins, we might as well change it to BVPI.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Even though I do not want BVP to be the GOV. He is not a bad guy.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Danny is not tied to the hip of BVP it is no wonder why the Des Moines Register says our party is looking for stability. Hell I am about ready to become an independent just from reading this everyday and wondering who I have aligned my self with. You guys are a bunch of cannibals. You know when we do end up with a chair I am curious to see how long it will take for the Libs. to start using our own words against us.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You mean like "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and anticipating a different result"?

    Good point.

    ReplyDelete
  33. According to Danny Carroll's website the grassroots want Pate followed by Cable then Strawn.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If you guys want to continue down the same path we have been on then elect the one that has been ordained by the current party system and put Matt Strawn in there and if you do not believe that he is hooked up with the same people in control now then how did he get the GOP email list??? It is so funny to see everyone come on here and say WOW I got an email from Matt Strawn and he really is trying to reach out to us!! Well DUH he was givin info that no one else is privy to and I guess they gave it to him because he is a threat to the status quo. Or maybe because he just more of the same.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Are you so foolish to think that all of the grassroots went to Mark Dolans website and voted? Most of the grassroots do not even visit these sites.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Krusty, I hate to say this, but I think its time to shut the blog down for the holidays and turn off the comments section. It is clear to me that the posters on here lack the basic maturity and foresight to conduct a constructive conversation. I have seen more insults, nastiness and out and out lies about good people to last a life time. Worse yet, I am willing to wager that most of the negativity has come out of the same 4 or 5 people posting multiple times. If the next chair is going to have any hope of leading, this negativity needs to stop. Unfortunately, the only way I can think of to do that is to shut down the blogs for a while so they lose their forum to publicize this crap.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Annon 2:35 yes that's it shut down free speech. That's right out of the Liberal Stalinists playbook. This stuff has to be allowed to be seen by all or else we become even more divided!

    ReplyDelete
  38. 2:35 is a pussy. This is nothing compared to the days of '06. If we didn't have Krusty to air our dirty laundry, it would never get out until it's too late. This is a healthy exercise for our party. If you don't like it, then leave.

    Wow, with that last sentence I sound like a social conservative! BVP '10!

  39. The Hon. Paul Pate is so great Cedar Rapids is changing its name to Pate Rapids. The state wanted to change from Iowa to Pateland but Paul is modest and his ego isn't that big. So they settled for renaming CR.

  40. It's true. Danny Carroll walks on water. Jesus is his 1st cousin. Plus Chuck Norris taught him a thing or two on the Huckabee Campaign.

  48. 2:54 you just dong get it do you? This isn’t about free speech, its about being responsible in our discourse. Running into a crowded theater or prank calling 911 does not constitute “free speech.” If you do those things you will be arrested. So too, the attitude that sitting on a blog all day bashing people for no good reason and dividing the party is free speech is bunk. What your doing is not airing grievances, you are throwing bombs and gasoline on a fire. How is that helpful? People who want to bash the same people who are doing everything in their power to save the sinking ship should be held down and beaten with a sock full of nickels.

    You wet blanket! Do you really believe that this so called negative discourse is just because of this or any blog? This kind of stuff has been going on since the founding of this nation! Granted the attacks weren't seen around the globe at a moments notice, but it still happened and things were still said. And yes they were nasty to some but its called freedom of speech! If you don't like it don't engage these places.

  57. haha "the truth said" - you are perfect example of the type of backers for the two candidates you seem to support.
    Backstab and try to lower to your standards - or rather lack of.
    Then you hide behind some phoney baloney name rather than being man enough to use your own. Where I come from MEN make such statements face to face or at least are not afraid to use their own name. Otherwise that must be your third grade teacher I hear saying your computer time is up.
    With backers like you supporting GK, TS and family we deserve what we get if they are elected. They are the true insiders in today in RPI and this kind of garbage shows why we are in the position we are as party. A bunch of hypocrites hiding behind backroom deals and slander.
    As far as I can see there are a number of candidates running for the right reasons. They want real change in the way RPI fuctions. They are not doing it for the money or for their egos or personal vendettas. Still we cannot even have discussions without this type of garbage. Not very conducive to energizing our party.
