McCain Leading in Iowa?

Victory Enterprises based in Davenport, Iowa has released the results of its recent poll of 402 registered voters. The poll showed John McCain with a 48% to 42% advantage over Barack Obama. A third of the respondents were Democrat, Republican, and no party voters.

The poll stands in contrast to the Des Moines Register Poll which showed Obama with a 12% lead over McCain. The Iowa Poll is conducted by Selzer & Co. Inc. of Des Moines. Selzer was spot on with her final polls before the Iowa Caucuses and the Republican Primary in Michigan.

The difference is that the VE poll chose to focus on only registered voters, and with Iowa’s new same day voter registration law in effect they are not accounting for any participation from unregistered voters or illegal aliens.

Regardless, the VE polls shows us that McCain can move numbers in Iowa even without investing much into this state in the 2000 and 2008 caucuses. The McCain/Palin visit to Cedar Rapids this week should also help create some excitement about the ticket here in Iowa.

The poll isn’t all good news for Republicans as it shows Governor Culver with a 59% approval rating.

  1. Obama panders to his party's fringe. Obama bets all on Iowa. Obama wins Iowa. Obama wins his party's nomination. Obama's wins cease.

McCain does not pander to his party's fringe. McCain does no all or nothing in Iowa. McCain loses Iowa. McCain wins his party's nomination. McCain becomes President McCain.

Moral of story, Iowa is not your best test market.

  2. I have a question for everyone--where's Michelle Obama? She's disappeared since the convention.

  3. No Krusty, what it shows is that VE is full of shit. As Bob Dole would say, "You know it, I know it and the American people know it".

Come on K Dog, their polling showed Tommy Thompson way ahead in the race for the White House and Peter Teahen crushing everybody in the 1st CD primary. And that is just this year's non-sense!

  4. Hershel...

As much as I love ya, man..VE polls have been proven to be utter and complete CRAP.

I'm not going to trust them as far as I could throw them..

But hey..you spend enough money with VE and Steve Grubbs will send you a free copy of "Winning the Tough Ones"..ROTFL

  5. My guess is VE is trying to make McCain think he has a chance in Iowa, so that McCain will put resources into the state (a/k/a $$$$$). And where there's $$$$$, there's Grubbers sniffing around for a piece of the pie.

And since McCain's Iowa staff has evaporated, it would be so convienient for McCain to just hire Grubbers and his VE minions as a pseudo staff so that Grubbers can line his pockers with more hard earned GOP dollars and tank yet another GOP campaign.

  6. Krusty, how come you don't spell all the "c"-words with a "k" like you used to? Just wondering. That always made me chuckle.

  7. Krusty,

You ought to give your readers a little more credit than to feed us this garbage poll.

  8. There are many polls out there. None that I have seen have McCain with a lead.

The RCP average, which I believe is the most accurate and bi-partisan has Obama at 51.7 and McCain at 41.7.

I dont think it is McCain's fault that he is losing so badly. I think it is the d-bags at the IRP and there terrible misuse of funds.

If Obama wins by 10 points we could very well see one of congressmen go, 2 of our senate seats and half a dozen house seats, all because Stu Iverson cant get off his fat ass and give it a college try!

That's my political rant for the day, back to football :)
